Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker is the unique telling of the classic story of Masha (Clara) and her Nutcracker Doll told with true Russian flair. Moscow Ballet celebrates its 21st year of touring this performance across North America, and to much critical acclaim! The whimsical fantasy of Moscow Ballet’s Nutcracker is legendary, with the piece firmly enshrined as a Christmas staple for audiences across the country and in Canada. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s beloved Nutcracker Suite, and Moscow Ballet’s company of 40 Vaganova-trained dancers are the perfect combination for a holiday celebration for all.
Moscow Ballet continues to provide art enrichment through their “Musical Wunderkind” program. As part of this program, this year Moscow Ballet is proud to align itself with local Youth Choirs for the Great Russian Nutcracker performances in the various cities in which they are performing. The Phoenix show will showcase The Phoenix Children’s Chorus. The PCC will be performing their holiday repertoire in the lobby of the theatre before the curtain rises and then, faithful to Tchaikovsky’s score, sing “Waltz of the Snowflakes” at the end of Act I. The children range in age from 7 to 18 years and study with experienced and award-winning music directors.
The 300 member Phoenix Children’s Chorus is celebrating 30 years of performing excellence. The primary goal of the Phoenix Children’s Chorus is to educate young people from various racial, religious and economic backgrounds that come from all parts of the greater Phoenix area in the fine art of choral singing. The curriculum is centered on excellence in vocal technique as well as musicianship and performance skills. The award-winning PCC touring choirs have performed in Austria, Germany, Ireland, Russia, Canada, China, Italy and throughout the United States serving as musical ambassadors representing the City of Phoenix, The State of Arizona and the United States.
